Hey, that was interesting,
BARGAIN!
Thanks for bringing this up
I highly recommend this remote! It is super easy to set up, customize and use day-to-day. There are enough hard buttons for the bulk of your everyday needs, but with the addition of the four soft buttons (displayed on the LCD screen), you can add tons more features as you can cycle through pages of additional commands. One key thing that sets these remotes apart from the majority of other universal remotes out there is the fact that the Harmony remotes are based on Activities. Basically, if you want to watch TV on my parents home theater set up, the remote turns on the TV, sets the input to Component 1, Turns on the AV Receiver, sets it is input to TV, sets the AV receiver s sound to Pro Logic Surround, and turns on the set top cable box. If you want to watch a DVD, the remote turns of the Cable Box, switches the inputs on the TV and AV Receiver, and turns on the DVD player. Also, if you have a game console, this totally makes it work for multimedia! I have a PS3. With this remote and a device called the PS3Toothfairy (a little box that converts the infrared signal from the remote to the Bluetooth signal required by the PS3) I can add my Playstation to the whole mix and use it as my sole movie player. Recently, Logitech has released a PS3 Harmony adapter which is even less expensive than the PS3Toothfairy, so I would recommend checking that out if you want to do a similar setup. Lastly, I guess I should mention some things about the setup. It is very easy. The remote comes with software that you install on your Mac or PC. Once installed, you connect the remote to the computer with a USB cable (included) and answer some onscreen questions about your setup. It basically asks what devices you have (Brand and Model Name/Number) and things like "Do you control your volume with your TV or your AV Receiver?" Then the software can create the Activity profiles that would be needed for your setup. After an update is sent to the remote you can test it on your system. This is something of a trial and error process, but I have only needed to make a few minor adjustments to get things perfect. I even used Logitech s phone support (I believe it comes with 90 days free phone support) and they were really helpful! Even if you are something of a technophobe, the ease of using this remote, once totally set up and "dialed in," is worth the minimal time you will spend setting it up. Plus, it is very easy to make adjustments down the line if you think you would like to tweak your setup a bit or add new devices.
