I am not completely sure why there is a consensus this remote will only work one room. After I programmed (entered) all my (13) components in the house, I was able to create activities for my home theater in the basement. The RF and IR combination does add versatility with the potential to control numerous devices that are in a cabinet or closet in addition to the devices in the viewing room. The "one button" initiation of viewing options is worth the money.
